Youth Voice at the CWM Assembly

The youth reminded the CWM Assembly afresh and very poignantly of the connection between church and real life issues. Enabled by the Spirit, they called us back to an integrated spirituality through their profound and thoughtfully crafted presentations. CWM believes that the prophetic ministry of youth is not potential. It is current. The voice of the youth at the Assembly echoes the Prophet Joel’s declaration:

“And it shall come to pass afterward,
that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your old men shall dream dreams,
and your young men shall see visions.”  Joel 2:28

The Youth Pre-Assembly was a space intentionally provided for the youth to discern together what God is calling us to in the world today. The youth participants responded to the Assembly theme Healing; Hope in Action through a process of first understanding the social issues confronting different countries, such as human trafficking, climate change and youth poverty. Subsequently, the youth chose a group best suited by their gifting to work on three aspects for presentation to the Assembly, namely, ‘Written statement’, ‘Music & Drama’ and ‘Visual Arts’. The teams wrestled with the issues in order to present a prophetic message of how to transform the ‘hopelessness’ of the world into positive and powerful interpretations. The Youth Assembly Statement, the drama piece that accompanied it, the Youth song and visual artworks are the vehicles that brought the prophetic voice of the Youth to the Assembly.

CWM Youth Pre-Assembly Song: Healing is God’s Gift of Life

“Healing is God’s gift of life.
Hope in action, with one heart and one beat.
I am suffering, because creation is crying.
Caribbean, Pasifika
Is calling the power of God.
Lead us to do, justice and peace.
And walk humbly, with our God.
Healing is God’s gift of life.
Hope in action, with one heart and one beat.
I am suffering, because creation is crying.
South Asia, East Asia
Is calling the power of God.
Lead us to do, justice and peace.
And walk humbly, with our God.
Healing is God’s gift of life.
Hope in action, with one heart and one beat.
I am suffering, because creation is crying.
Europe Region, Africa
Is calling the power of God.
Lead us to do, justice and peace.
And walk humbly, with our God.
And walk humbly, with your God.”
